Schoology @ Mt Stromlo High School

Schoology, our schools digital learning management system, is an important part of Mount Stromlo High School. It is used within our classrooms as a place of learning, providing a platform for developing engaging and dynamic content that reflects the Australian Curriculum.image00

Each year level has its own specific group and provides a place for staff and students to share information that is relevant to a specific year level. For example notices relating to work experience and college transitions would be posted as an update on the Year 10 page.

Our school library has its own page on Schoology that is accessible to students and staff. This is a great resource for students. It provides information on newly available books and includes resources that are important for their class and assessment work. A valuable section of the Library page includes resources on how to write a bibliography and the Writing Framework. The Writing Framework was developed by staff at Mount Stromlo High School includes a variety of templates they can use when completing their assessments. For example if they have to write a scientific report, there is a template available that they can refer to.

image01Schoology is also used as a way engaging with the wider school community. All the parents, staff and students have access to a page called the Mount Stromlo Community Page. Staff and students are able to share upcoming events, what has been happening in their classroom and the achievements of our students from competitions such as school sport and academic competitions.

Mural Club @ Mt Stromlo High School

Each Monday after school a group of students meet in the Art rooms to create and revitalise murals around the school. We have just completed an abstract mural at the front of the Technology and Arts building. The design was created by two students in The Graphic Design class during semester 2 last year. It took more than a term to complete the painting and we are very pleased with the positive feedback from staff and students.

We have also just hung another mural outside the SPACE. Designed by our current male school captain the mural depicts the House mascots aptly dressed in spacesuits.
New participants are always welcome!

Australian Volleyball Schools Cup 2015

This year Mount Stromlo High School entered two teams into the Australian Volleyball Schools cup held in Melbourne.

The competition is held over a week and more than 200 schools from all across Australia and New Zealand take part (it’s a big deal!). The two senior teams demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship over the week and embodied the school’s core values the entire time.

Both teams had great wins (and some losses, but we won’t talk about that), with the girls finishing in 7th position and the boys in 8th.

All students should be congratulated for their efforts, and for representing the school with pride.  A big thankyou to Maddie Clayden, who volunteered her time to coach the boys team for the week.

Here are some happy snaps of the action!

The work will commence with site preparation and on Saturday 19th December and removal to be completed by 27th January 2016. The Directorate is working closely with us, to ensure that the removal process is completed with minimal disruption to the school the removal is to be completed in the Stand own period.

The safety and welfare of our students and staff is our paramount concern and we will continue to monitor the situation and advise of any developments.
