French Film Festival

In March,  students learning French will have the opportunity to attend a screening of ‘Asterix in the House of the Gods’ (rated G) as part of the French Film Festival at Palace Electric Cinema. The French Film Festival is a nationwide, annual event organised by the Alliance Française in Australia. The event is very popular, with 1623 Canberra students attending one of the film screenings in 2014. ‘Asterix in the House of the Gods’ is inspired by the classic French comic that is well loved by children and adults the world over and has been translated into over 100 languages and dialects. This is a fabulous opportunity for Mt Stromlo  students to be exposed to the French language in a setting outside of the classroom. As this event is so popular with schools it does sell out quickly and numbers are limited. The teachers in charge of this event will be Paula Degeling and Matilda Elder.

The completed permission note should be returned to your child’s French teacher and payment made to the Finance Office by Friday 20th February. Replacement notes can be found under the excursions tab on the website.

World Challenge Information Session

Mount Stromlo High School & World Challenge are delighted to announce that we are launching another very exciting program which offers students the opportunity to plan, fund and ultimately lead their own 3-week long expedition to North Vietnam in September 2016.

This program will be managed by World Challenge, a pioneering educational organisation with 27 years of experience in delivering personal development expeditions for students. The expedition is preceded by a training and preparation program, during which students play a major role in planning their itinerary, which will include project work in a local community and a challenging trek. Students are also supported in setting and achieving individual and team fundraising goals to help cover the cost of the expedition program, where on average, students raise over half of the total program cost.

Interested students and their parents are invited to a presentation delivered by a member of the World Challenge team who will discuss the benefits of the program, the fundraising support and safety back-up they provide, and how they deliver a fun, rewarding, and safe experience.

Date: Wednesday February 25th, 2015

2015 Japanese Language Teachers Assistant

Mutsuno 2Mutsuno 1 In April 2015 we will welcome a new Japanese Language Teacher’s assistant form Japan. Thanks to the four very generous families who have offered to host her this year! Mutsuno’s self introduction is below. Hello. My name is Mutsuno Kakoi. Please let me introduce myself to you. I have lived in Kagoshima city with my family and cats. I am interested in the world culture. I especially love Japanese culture very much. For example, I have played Hyakunin-isshu since I was a high school student. (It is a card game in which the players try to match the first and second halves of each of the One Hundred Tanka Poems by One Hundred Celebrated Poets.) There are many calculated and beautiful Japanese poems. It represents very Japanese culture. I also like Japanese tea ceremony and calligraphy. When I enjoy them, I have very good time. I think I can tell you wonderful Japanese culture through Japanese class. And I would like to know about Australia, so please tell me many things about your country and city. I also like to exercise and play many sports. When I was a high school student, I belonged to a track and field club. I like jogging so I sometimes take part in some marathon race in Japan. Although I am short (My height is only 148 centimeters tall…), I have a confidence in love of the world culture, my physical strength and vigor. I am looking forward to meeting you.
