Mount Stromlo Open Night for 2015 students

Mount Stromlo Open Night for 2015 students will be held on Tuesday 20th May, from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.

New Logo

In 2013 Minister Joy Burch approved the name change from Stromlo to Mount Stromlo High School. This resulted in a search for a logo, either retaining the existing logo or designing a new logo, to best represent what our school is about. To this end, a design competition was held and several options were surveyed among students, staff and the wider community last term. The majority vote went to the following design, which has now been adopted as our new logo starting second term. This design manages to retain the school colours, while also emphasizing our partnership with Mount Stromlo Research Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics. The Centre gave the school a Dobsonian Telescope in 2012, and this is now featured in the logo. The circles around the logo indicate stellar movement. In coming weeks, you will see the logo changing on letterheads, e-mails and school badging. Existing school uniforms will remain and do not require replacement until stock with new logo becomes available.

The existing signage out the front of the school will be replaced with upgraded electronic signage, and once the logo transition is advanced, we plan to celebrate this next stage of strengthening the school with a community event later this year. Thanks to all students and the wider community for supporting the way we are modernizing the learning at Stromlo with an improved curriculum, a stronger emphasis on science and scientific literacy, with Bringing their own Digital Devices (BYOD) and for your overall support for everything we do to ensure a quality education for each and every student.

Excursions: information for parents

A new feature has been added to the school website that allows parents to download a copy of current excursion permission notes. On the homepage you will notice a new tab called ‘Excursion’ simply click on the tab and select the appropriate excursion.

Students will continue to receive a paper copy of all excursion notes from their classroom teacher.

We hope you find this additional feature helpful.

Have a happy and safe Easter weekend.

Good luck Jamie and we hope to see you in the Olympics one day!!!

Year 7 Jindabyne Camp Day 2

Day 2 started with heavier rain than the pervious day but that did not stop a number of students going for a run around the athletics track at 6:15am. A yummy breakfast was had by all and we were into activities at 9am.
Team initiatives, mountain biking and archery were in full swing. The rain continued but we then had a water and paintball session that included everyone. There was a running and screaming competition that defies explanation. The end result was a great deal of fun, very wet and muddy students and smiles all round.
Showers and dinner were now the main priorities. Having enjoyed beef stew or chicken for dinner we then created the Jindi markets.
Students produced a range of stalls that brought smiles and laughs to everyone’s faces. Some of these included nail painting, arm wrestling, dance offs, ice cream stalls and much much more! The night came to an end and the second day proved to be a blast even with the rain!!!
The Year 10 peer support leaders have been outstanding during the first two days. The photo shows some of the leaders reflecting on Day 2’s activities.

Year 7 Jindabyne Camp Day 1

The weather couldn’t dampen our spirit first thing in the morning. We enjoyed a smooth coach ride through to Jindabyne.
Having arrived and settled in, we then had lunch and left for our first activity. These included mountain biking, archery and a high ropes course. Some students experienced these activities for the first time and without doubt really enjoyed them.
After some free time, we then dined on spag bol, salads and jelly fruit and ice-cream for dessert.
After some more free time, the night activities are now in full swing with the students having a blast. Bring on Day 2!!!
