From the school leaders

As the year draws to an end, the final days of term see many culminations to the school year.

  •  Year 10 Farewell assembly and formal this week, followed by their graduation on Monday 16  December  at Vikings Erindale starting 6:30pm for 7pm start.
  •  The female student toilets will finally be refurbished and be ready by second term next year
  •  Lab 4 will be restored to full occupancy by around Easter next Year
  • The P&C are thanked for running the canteen up to and including this year. After careful consideration it has been decided to upgrade the canteen to increase the range of food available and to improve hours of operation starting next year.
  • The school’s canteen service will therefore undergo an overhaul and an online menu will become available during first term next year. Metropolitan Canteens will be the new provider and this change comes with new canteen equipment being installed, including a refrigerated glass display case and commercial oven, and structural alterations to the way students queue and are seated.
  • Outgoing staff who have successfully applied for a transfer include Ms Mardi Roberts-Bolton, who will go to Melba Copland in the new year, Mrs Anna Russell (to Melrose High School) and Ms Dion Oxley who will teach at Dickson College. Mr Fuda has been successful in moving to Gungahlin College. Ms Bongiwe Tabi will end her science teaching contract this year.
  • Incoming staff include Ms Clare Inchin who will teach art, Ms Emma Thomson who will teach English, and Ms  Pinky Munshi who will be in science. Additional staffing arrangements will come to hand over the break and the next newsletter will advise those.
  •  As previously advised, Year Six will no longer operate at Stromlo in 2014
  •  The Stromlo community has agreed that all year seven incoming students are expected to bring their own digital device (BYOD). More Information regarding this can be found on the school’s website, which also details preferred models.
  • Our projected school enrolments are expected to drop to around 620 next year, and will begin to rise after that due to residential housing becoming available in Coombs and Wright.

This is the last blog for 2013. Parents, carers and students are reminded that the BLOG can be subscribed to via push technology.
