School Satisfaction Survey Reminder

So far we have 196 responses from parents and carers.

The 2013 School Satisfaction Survey for Parents and Carers will remain open until Friday 20 September 2013 to give parents and carers some extra time to respond. If you have not already completed the survey, please complete the survey by Friday 20 September 2013. The survey results will contribute to the school improvement process and will help us to understand areas where we are doing a good job and areas for further development. Information about the parent and carer survey was emailed to parents and carers (as long as your contact details are correct). If you have not received an email for each child in your family, please contact the school office.

Thank you in anticipation of your participation in this important school survey.

RSPCA Cupcake Day 2013

RSPCA Cupcake Day is being held on Tuesday 24th September (Week 10) to raise money to support our sponsored kennel at the RSPCA in Weston Creek. We are asking Stromlo High School students to make and donate cupcakes that can be sold on the day. If students could please bring any cupcakes to the main staffroom before school that would be much appreciated. Ensure that all containers and lids are clearly labelled so that they can be returned at the end of the day. We are aiming to beat our previous fundraising effort of $400, so it would be wonderful if students could get board and support this excellent organisation!

NAPLAN Results for Years 7 and 9 delayed to term 4 this year

Information for parents

• The ACT Education and Training Directorate has been advised by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) that there will be a delay in the provision of individual student NAPLAN reports for parents.
• ACARA has advised an error has been made in the representation of the national average in the reports for Years 5 and 7 Language Conventions.
• This error does not affect student results, which are correct.
• ACARA is working to rectify the issue and minimise delays in student report distribution.
• We expect the reports will be distributed early in Term 4.
• If you have any questions, please contact Principal Dr Michael Kindler by ringing the school on 62056166

School Satisfaction and School Climate Surveys

Stromlo High School is continually interested in gaining information that assists planning and making decisions. To this end, the school undertakes data collection during coming days and before 20 September.

The first survey is called the School Satisfaction Survey and parents, students and staff are invited to participate in this. This survey has national as well as jurisdictional components. That means all parents across Australia and the ACT will have the same survey questions to which they can respond. An email with a unique code will be sent during this week to all families outlining the process. Please be assured that you as parents, students or teachers will not be identified by the survey. If you do not have email contact details, please contact the school and we can provide you with a paper version of the survey or provide you with access codes and/or to a computer if that is required. Students will undertake the survey on Thursday this week and Tuesday next week for Year 10 who are currently on work experience. If you would like more information please contact Mr Rod Grieve on 62056166 or .

The second survey isthe School Climate survey in partnership with the Australian National University. The aim is to gather information about day-to-day experiences, the strengths of the school, and the future challenges (and looks at some areas specific to Stromlo High School that are not captured by other surveys). This survey for staff and students only will take place in weeks 7 and 8 of Term 3, 2013. The survey and feedback processes are managed by researchers from the Australian National University. We will discuss the findings of the survey with you at a future time. Gathering information of this kind from time to time is important in ensuring the quality of the educational experience for staff and students.

SRC Report

This year the Stromlo SRC has been busy arranging lots of fundraisers for the school. Our main goal for this year has been school bubblers, but we have also managed to save for two new bins for out the front of the school.

Early last term, the student representative councils from Stromlo, Telopea, Melrose and Alfred Deakin all met up for a three day camp at Long Beach. There we came up with the idea for this year’s School Networking day, “You R U Day”. It was awesome meeting all the other people from the different schools. “You R U Day” will be held in Week 9 of this term and all the schools are currently busy getting everything ready for it. From the looks of things, it should be a great day and we’re all looking forward to it.

Some other SRC initiatives that have happened during the year include the disco which was held last term, selling lolly bags to raise money for the bubblers and some free uniform days. Daffodil Day is currently under way. We’ve been selling daffodils to raise money for the Cancer Council for all of this week.

Some up coming events to look forward to are RSPCA Cupcake day, the 40 hour famine (remember to sign up online to win house points as well) and of course You R U day!

That’s all for now,

The Stromlo SRC
